Warning Forever (2003) is a controversial game for the SHMUP community: while it looks like a danmaku game to the profane with its barrage of bullets on the screen, the game partial predictability and acceptable intensity sticks it to the boss rush vertical shooter category.

For me, Warning Forever has been the game of the change.

Around the 2000s I used to feverishly explore the freeware scene looking for good games. I've found fascinating that someone decides to make software for free - even if its quality was often sub-par compared to the commercial ones. (poor me... during that time I was a Linux user and I didn't realise that I already had my answer).

Then I met Warning Forever: it was an arcade quality game, so much fun to play, original and completely free. I used to play SHMUPs at the local arcade, despite I never managed to play them well, and having a game I'd have paid to play it for free actually impacted my expenses, mood and mind.

For someone, making software for free wasn't just a pasttime. It wasn't making software with no value or to practise bit. It was another way of feeling the value of software.

And the rest is history.
