Metroidvania is a very curious term and a very curious genre. It is mostly used for 2D platformers which requires exploration and backtracking, as Metroid and Castlevania did in 1986. Nowadays, except for the Metroid Prime series, the genre is mostly orphan and it is the fortune of indie developers.

Why triple A producers abandoned the genre, despite there is some kind of demand? One of the most famous cases of successful indie Metroidvania is Cave Story (2004) a one-man (Daisuke 'Pixel' Amaya) work and masterpiece, released as freeware and, then, became a full retail product.

I'll get inspiration by this title for implementing larger maps, which required a total rewrite of the engine. Because, as the Wright! Engine Guidelines said, 'use tilemaps without implementing them'.

Plot!

You're a worker that falls by accident in an abandoned cave, that's hiding a tremendous secret. Move the main character with LEFT/RIGHT, jump with UP and fire with the A BUTTON. Interact with people and objects pressing DOWN.
