Bwall Plus!
Wall breaker, © KesieV 2015-2018
There is a crucial difference between the original Breakout (1976) and modern wall breakers like Arkanoid (1986). It's ball control: modern wall breakers allows to change the ball bounce angle hitting it on different parts of the bat.
So, hitting the ball from the middle part will bounce it vertically and from the right or left sides will change the angle accordingly.
When I tried making a wall breaker clone, inspired by the great Batty (1987) for ZX Spectrum, I knew that I was going to add better physics to Wright!, making it more complex than I wanted and leaving its platformer-only purpose but... can you really say you can make a retro game without putting together a wall breaker?
Plot!
I've always thought that the original Arkanoid plot and all the Doh thing sucked a lot but I never imagined that thinking a good plot of a wall breaker game was so hard. So. No plot for you. Use LEFT/RIGHT to move the bat. That's all.
PS: 3 years later I've added the unmissable bing-bong sounds and hiscores. Just what this game needed. I've fixed the article too and I wish I could've seen my face after seeing the future Wright! FPS.
